UGC creator

A UGC creator is a freelancer who produces casual, selfie-style video content for brands but doesn't post it on their own social channels. The brand owns the footage and runs it as paid ads or organic posts on the brand's account.

In depth

UGC creators emerged as a distinct profession around 2021–2022 when brands realized they needed UGC-style content faster than influencer partnerships could deliver. The deal is simple: a creator films 3–5 selfie clips of a product, the brand pays $100–$500 per clip, and the brand uses the footage wherever it wants.

For brands, UGC creators are cheaper than influencers (no audience premium) but more expensive than stock footage. The real bottleneck is iteration speed: you can't easily ask a UGC creator for "the same clip but with a different hook in the first 3 seconds" — that's a re-shoot.

AI UGC is now compressing this market. AI personas produce equivalent footage in minutes, support unlimited iteration on hooks/CTAs/scripts, and cost less than $1 per variation. Most UGC agencies in 2026 quietly use AI for at least part of their output.
